No. Jurisdiction depends on city limits, contracts between towns and counties, and state law, and we do not have that data for every address. This page shows the agencies that commonly serve a spot, and why each one is listed, so you know who to ask.
Why does a sheriff's office show up for a place inside a city?
A sheriff's office usually serves the whole county, and in many states it also handles courts, jails, and areas outside city limits. Inside a city, the city police department is often first to respond, but the sheriff can still be involved.
How are the local police departments chosen?
We list the closest city and town departments by straight line distance to the agency's listed address. The one whose city limits include you is usually the primary local agency, so check the city's website or ask the department.
Who should I call in an emergency?
Call 911. The dispatcher sends the agency that covers your location. For a non-emergency, call the agency's own number, which is listed on its page.
